ROCK SPRINGS — A Tiger will be running loose in Nebraska come fall.
Rock Springs High School senior Ethan Sholey, a decorated runner for the Tigers, signed his national letter of intent on Wednesday, April 24, to compete at Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska. Sholey, the son of Todd and Helen Kim Sholey, will be running cross country, indoor track, as well as track and field in the Cornhusker State.
What attracted him to apply at Concordia was the 98% acceptance rate into their medical program. He also noted that students are treated as individuals, not just as athletes and that coaches want to see the team grow. After speaking to the coach for over an hour on the phone, Sholey was inspired to visit the campus.
“It was the first school I visited and the only school I wanted to go to,” said Sholey. “That one stuck out more than the others. It’s a winner.”
Sholey was a percussionist in the RSHS band but plans to put music on hold to focus on his studies and concentrate on the sport.
He expressed that he is always happy when he is outside, especially with friends,
He’s determined to improve on whatever he will do by putting in the same amount of work and dedication he has put into as an RSHS student.
“The coaches at Rock Springs High School gave me a good base to take it to the next level and I’m extremely happy to see what happens,” he said.
Sholey will be a pre-med student, aiming to become a second-generation optometrist in Rock Springs.
