Western’s painting students are hard at work in the studio on campus. Western Wyoming Community College (Western) will host an exhibition of student artworks in Western’s Art Gallery from April 26 — August 30.
ROCK SPRINGS — As the academic year comes to a close, Western Wyoming Community College (Western) will host an exhibition of student artworks in Western’s Art Gallery. An annual occurrence, the exhibition gives Western’s art students an opportunity to showcase, and sell, their artwork in a professional gallery setting. The Student Art Exhibition will be open for viewers from April 26, through August 30. A public reception and awards ceremony of The Student Art Exhibition will be held in the Art Gallery on the afternoon of May 9.
The Student Art Exhibition will feature works made in a number of media including painting, printmaking, ceramics, photography, drawing, sculpture, and mixed-media approaches. Many of the original artworks in the show represent a student’s first attempt at professionally exhibiting and selling their art.
In addition to providing a unique opportunity to Western’s students, the annual exhibition serves as a culmination for some. For many students who will graduate from Western in the Spring and continue their artmaking elsewhere, The Student Art Exhibition represents an end to their time at Western, and the start of their lives outside of Western’s campus. For art students specifically, the exhibition also represents the achievement of their degree in art.
The exhibition will be open to the public starting Friday, April 26, with a reception to be hosted in the gallery on the evening of Thursday, May 9, from 1:00 p.m. to 3 p.m., with the awards ceremony at 3 p.m.
Works in the exhibition will be available for purchase, and proceeds will be split between the artist and Western’s Art Gallery. Western’s Ben Nathan will oversee the installation and display of The Student Art Exhibition with the help of several student gallery interns.
